1929 Wm. S. Haynes Solid Silver Flute - Documented Portland Performance History

This solid silver Haynes was professionally played by Doris Wildman Herse (Her-see) in the Alicia McElroy Ensemble, a celebrated Portland chamber group active from the 1920s–1950s. Archival 1933 performance program available in the Multnomah County Library digital gallery, https://gallery.multcolib.org/document/alicia-mcelroy-ensemble-home-mr-and-mrs-henry-l-corbett-april-23-1933. This is a piece of Oregon musical history returning to the Portland community.

  • Serial No. 10746, manufactured c. 1929
  • Solid silver throughout: body, headjoint, and keys 
  • Closed-hole, C-foot configuration
  • Vintage instrument repadded and polished Nov. 2021, Willamette Valley Music Company, Salem, Oregon. Very good condition. 
  • Both original Haynes vintage case and new zippered case included 
  • Evaluated by a professional flute teacher: plays beautifully; one note slightly off-pitch, easily corrected by a qualified technician.
  • Documentation and more photos available upon request 
  • Video demonstration available; hear the tone before you buy 
  • Oregonian newspaper clipping included, concert performed at Portland's Women's Club Auditorium, April 1951.
