Upcoming Non-GPFS Events of Interest

What: Please join flutist John C. Savage, Ph.D. for an afternoon of generative flute writing. In this 2-hour workshop, John will lead attendees through exercises intended to foster the creative spirit and address technical issues in writing music for the flute. This workshop is open to flutists, composers, songwriters, and flute enthusiasts. All levels are welcome.
When: Saturday, February 6, 2016 3-5PM
Where: Reed College, 3203 Southeast Woodstock Boulevard, Performing Arts Building, Room 320
Cost: $25, cash or check. Reed College students are FREE
More Info: Park anywhere in the lot near the Performing Arts Building. It is easiest to enter from the pedestrian bridge on the east side of the building, just follow the sidewalk up the hill and around. What: Flute Alliance Solo & Ensemble Prep Day
When: Sunday, February 7, 2016 1-4PM
Where: Portland State University, Rm #326
Admission: Free!
More Info: Take advantage of a practice run-through of your solo and/or ensemble prior to your school district competition! Three top professional flutists and educators (Sydney Carlson-Portland State University, Carla Wilson-University of Portland, and Denise Westby-Linfield College) will provide a supportive and safe place to perform, with or without your accompanist. Following your performance, they will give personalized suggestions for improvement, including copies of written impressions and ideas for you to take home and discuss with your teacher. Attendance for the entire event is encouraged in order to gain experience performing as well as from comments to other participants.
Pre-registration is needed to reserve your performance time slot. Contact Denise Westby at or call 503-624-0553.

Afterwards stay for the GPFS-sponsored Collegiate Showcase Recital at 5PM (see more info above)!
